How to use the BT460

Step 1: Identify the battery and supported test

Start the battery test and wait for a stable result. Record voltage, measured rating, internal resistance, state of charge, state of health and the tester’s decision together rather than reading only one value.

Step 6: Run the prompted cranking test

Select cranking test, keep the leads clear, and start the engine only when the screen prompts. Record the minimum cranking voltage and cranking behavior, then let the engine stabilize.

Step 7: Run the prompted charging-system test

Select charging test and follow the exact on-screen engine-speed and load prompts. Compare the observed charging behavior with the vehicle specification; one voltage snapshot does not diagnose every alternator fault.
