If a ProMaster brake pedal travels farther than expected or takes unusual force to stop the van, decide whether it is safe to move before doing anything else. For a vehicle inside Stellantis TSB 05-001-25, the documented cause is surprising—an overtightened brake-fluid reservoir cap—and the repair is an OEM brake bleed followed by gentle cap installation. That narrow answer does not cancel the need to check for a real hydraulic leak.

A pressure bleeder can support the prescribed bleed when its adapter seals correctly and the pressure and sequence come from the vehicle procedure. The MRCARTOOL F109 brake fluid flush machine is one possible shop route. It cannot diagnose a hydraulic leak or master/ABS fault, choose the ProMaster sequence or pressure, correct an overtightened cap by itself, or make a soft pedal safe to drive.

The first card is about safety, the second about pedal feel, and only the third opens the TSB.

Quick answer: Do not drive an unsafe pedal; check for fluid loss, confirm the ProMaster scope, then follow the OEM bleed and gently secure the cap at slight resistance.

Decide whether the van should be towed

Do not road-test a vehicle that needs pumping to stop, sinks toward the floor, has a red brake warning, shows low fluid, leaks fluid, pulls violently, or cannot maintain pedal reserve. Park it on level ground, secure it against movement and arrange recovery.

Brake fluid damages paint and can injure eyes and skin. Keep the reservoir clean and capped until professional inspection begins. Never substitute an empty parking lot for a stable hydraulic pedal.

Describe the pedal before pumping it

Ask the driver not to normalize the pedal by repeated pumping before arrival if the vehicle can be recovered safely. Record whether the pedal is low and spongy, low but firm, slowly sinking under steady pressure, hard with poor assist, or normal at first and worse after heat. Note recent brake work, fluid service, reservoir top-up, cap removal, ABS activation and warning messages.

Those distinctions matter. Air commonly feels compressible; excessive clearance can create travel with a firmer end; internal bypass may allow a steady pedal to sink; an assist problem tends to make the pedal hard. The bulletin names one scoped cause, but it is not a universal soft-pedal diagnosis.

Inspect level and every visible leak path

Check the reservoir level without contaminating it. Inspect the master-cylinder area, ABS hydraulic unit, accessible lines and hoses, fittings, calipers or wheel cylinders and the inside of wheels. A falling level or fresh wetness must be resolved before assuming trapped air came only from cap installation.

Also inspect the fluid condition and confirm the exact specification. Do not mix silicone DOT 5 with glycol-based DOT 3, DOT 4 or DOT 5.1. Use only the fluid Stellantis specifies for the VIN; a higher number is not automatically an upgrade.

TSB 05-001-25 applies to 2024–2025 Ram ProMaster VF vehicles built on or before April 15, 2025 and equipped with the 3.6L V6 ERF engine. Confirm VIN, build date, engine sales code, current bulletin revision and any open safety campaign.

Bleed only with the current OEM sequence

The bulletin instructs technicians to remove the reservoir cap and perform the detailed brake-bleeding procedure in the Service Library. It does not publish a universal wheel order, machine pressure or ABS activation sequence in the short bulletin. Those details must come from the current VIN-specific procedure.

Use a sealed, compatible adapter, clean specified fluid, controlled collection and sufficient reservoir level throughout. Air introduced at the reservoir or a loose bleeder can create the very symptom being investigated. If ABS hydraulic activation is required, use the approved scan-tool routine.

Seat the cap at slight resistance

After bleeding, Stellantis says to turn the cap until slight resistance is felt and then gently tighten it only enough to be secure. The cap should point outward from the reservoir as illustrated so it is not overtightened.

This is not a torque challenge. Do not use pliers or add leverage. Inspect cap threads, seal and reservoir neck for damage from prior overtightening and follow current parts guidance if damage is found.

Keep master cylinder and ABS faults downstream

If the pedal still sinks, remains spongy, or lacks reserve after the procedure, stop. Check for retained air, external leakage, hose expansion, caliper or wheel-cylinder problems, mechanical clearance, master-cylinder bypass and ABS hydraulic issues under the service manual. Do not repeat fluid exchange indefinitely.

A pressure bleeder moves fluid and can remove air when used correctly. It does not prove that a seal holds pressure or that every ABS passage was opened.

Verify pedal reserve before any controlled road check

With the vehicle stationary, confirm fluid level, cap security/orientation, no leaks, a firm repeatable pedal and appropriate reserve under sustained pressure. Check warning lamps and scan the brake system. Only then should a qualified technician perform the specified low-speed check in a controlled area, followed by a normal road verification if safe.

Reinspect every disturbed point afterward. A successful repair is a stable pedal before and after the drive, normal stopping effort, no warning, no fluid loss and a gently secured cap—not simply fresh fluid in the reservoir.
