Stop repeating the START-button attempt

Stop pressing the START button after a few deliberate attempts. Note whether the dash wakes, whether the engine cranks, and whether any message says the key is not detected. Repeated attempts can drain the 12-volt battery and add low-voltage warnings to the original complaint. Secure the car in Park, apply the brake and request roadside help if it blocks traffic. Do not disassemble the steering column or attempt internet ‘resets.’ The campaign describes a communication issue, not a mechanical key cylinder that can be forced.

List every key-fob function that still works

Make a two-column list before the tow: lock, unlock, trunk release, alarm, remote start and START-button recognition. Test the spare key if available and record whether both behave the same. Try only the owner’s manual emergency method

Use only the emergency recognition method in the K4 owner’s manual, such as positioning the fob as directed at the START button. Do not hold unknown magnets, phones or improvised antennas against the car. Record whether the cluster recognizes the key and whether the engine starts. One successful emergency start may get the vehicle to service, but it does not close an intermittent controller condition. The bulletin notes that functions may include smart-key saving, variant coding and tire-pressure-monitoring sensor ID writing, with model-dependent steps. This is why physical replacement alone is not a finished repair. Save before and after controller identity and scan results. Do not use a generic OBD tool to guess coding selections. If programming fails, follow Kia recovery guidance; repeated battery disconnects can create more initialization work and do not teach the new controller the missing keys.

Verify both starting and every retained function

Verify every item from the original matrix with every key: passive recognition, START-button operation, lock, unlock, trunk, alarm and remote start where equipped. Confirm the engine starts multiple times after sleep, not only while the diagnostic system keeps modules awake. Check for new warning lights and verify TPMS information after the required drive or initialization. Return a concise record showing the battery result, CA2515 status, BDC replacement, all keys present and all functions passed. That lets the owner know no working feature was lost while the no-start was repaired.

This K4 no-start is easier to describe when the owner leads with the functions that still work.
