Save The Fault Before Reseating
A Multistrada V4 that starts hard, idles erratically, or stores P061B/MAP sensor errors carries two kinds of perishable evidence. The control unit holds the electronic moment—fault status and freeze frame—while the motorcycle holds the physical moment—how both MAP sensors were seated before anyone touched them. Save both.

Save the electronic moment before it disappears
Do not clear the MIL, disconnect the battery, erase adaptations, or repeatedly start the engine before scanning. Save every control unit, code, status, occurrence count, mileage, engine temperature, rpm, manifold pressure, throttle position, battery voltage, and any available freeze frame. Export the report rather than relying on phone photos alone.
Record whether the issue occurs on the first cold start, hot restart, after refueling, after a software update, in wet weather, or after bodywork. Note cranking speed, start time, idle oscillation, stall, exhaust smell, and whether cycling the key changes it. Stop repeated starts if fuel odor, severe misfire, abnormal mechanical noise, or unsafe heat appears.
Confirm the Multistrada V4 context
Ducati’s SRV-TTB-20-001 Rev.24 item applies to Multistrada V4 all model versions and notes improvements to the production process from the end of April 2021. Confirm full VIN, exact version, build data, current software, accessories, prior intake work, and latest Ducati service instructions.
The date is context, not a guarantee. An earlier motorcycle may have perfectly seated sensors; a later one can still have connector, wiring, air-leak, software, or unrelated starting problems. Check VIN recalls separately and do not confuse a technical tip with a safety campaign.
Photograph both sensors as found
Secure the motorcycle and allow it to cool. Remove panels only by the approved sequence. Before loosening a tie, connector, hose, or sensor, take wide images that show location and routing, then close images of both sensors, seats, connectors, seals, and retention. Include a consistent reference angle.
Do not press a sensor inward just to “check” it before the photograph. That one touch may correct an intermittent seating issue and destroy the physical evidence. Note gaps, tilt, incomplete engagement, tension from wiring, damaged seals, contamination, or signs of prior handling without declaring cause from appearance alone.
Read P061B and MAP errors as clues
P061B is commonly rendered as an internal control-module torque-calculation performance fault, while MAP-related codes concern pressure signals. On this Ducati case, the combination can arise when pressure information becomes implausible—but neither description proves a failed ECU or sensor.
Compare both MAP values, barometric reference, throttle state, engine-off plausibility, cranking behavior, and battery voltage using exact Ducati definitions. A voltage drop during cranking can corrupt multiple signals. An intake leak, connector fault, pin fit, wiring damage, mechanical timing, fueling, or software condition can imitate a seating issue.

Inspect seating without forcing a conclusion
After the as-found record, inspect the seat and seal for damage or contamination according to the workshop procedure. Verify connector lock and wire strain. Compare the two sensor positions rather than using a generic “flush” appearance. Do not apply sealant, bend brackets, or push with tools.
If moving a sensor changes live data, record exactly what was moved and under what engine state. That response localizes the area, but could involve the connector, wiring, seal, or sensor body. Restore or repair only through Ducati’s approved path.
Keep retention changes inside current Ducati instructions
The 2022 tip describes fixing the sensors with self-locking ties positioned as shown and asks dealers to document the result. That is historical technical guidance, not permission to place any cable tie anywhere. Current Ducati information, exact routing, tie specification, orientation, clearances, and dealer authorization control.
Improper ties can pinch a hose, stress a connector, abrade wiring, obstruct service, or degrade with heat. If the latest procedure cannot be verified, preserve the evidence and hand the motorcycle to a qualified Ducati technician rather than improvising retention.
Exit the seating theory when evidence disagrees
If both sensors are correctly seated, pressure signals remain plausible under the failure, and the symptom does not respond to the approved inspection, stop trying to make the tip fit. Continue battery/cranking voltage, fuel quality and pressure, intake leakage, throttle adaptation, software, wiring, compression, and mechanical timing diagnosis as current Ducati information directs.
If only one MAP signal is implausible, use circuit and substitution tests approved for that sensor. Do not replace both sensors as a pair without evidence. If P061B persists alone, preserve its freeze frame and follow the torque-monitoring diagnostic plan.
Verify hot and cold starts with a fresh scan
After the approved correction, restore panels, routing, connectors, and fasteners. Perform key-on plausibility checks, a fully cold start, warm idle, throttle response, and a heat-soaked restart. Compare both MAP values in the same states and watch battery voltage during cranking.
Run a full scan after the required ride only when the motorcycle is safe and all static checks pass. Save the after-report and after-photos beside the originals. The case closes when the original start/idle condition does not recur and faults remain absent—not when a cleared MIL stays dark for one start.
