Count the storage interval before the first ride

Establish the storage interval before moving the motorcycle. Count from the last real ride or sale preparation, not from the day the cover came off. Ask whether anyone rolled the bike, operated the pedal, disconnected the battery or performed brake work during storage. Triumph says any Rocket 3 stored for more than four months must have the rear brake system bled before return to service or activation for sale. If the history is uncertain and may exceed the threshold, treat that uncertainty conservatively. Do not use a quick ride around the building to decide whether the instruction matters.

Treat four months as a service gate

The four-month point is not a prediction that every parked Rocket 3 has already lost braking; it is a preparation requirement published by Triumph. Record model, VIN, storage dates and current owner-handbook/service information. Check for open recalls and newer bulletins during the same intake. Do not choose fluid by cap color or mix a silicone-based type with glycol-based fluid. Use only sealed fresh fluid of the specified grade. Inspect the rear circuit before opening it

Inspect the rear hydraulic circuit in its untouched state. Check reservoir level and diaphragm, pedal pivot and free movement, master cylinder, hoses, unions, caliper, bleeder and pads for moisture, damage or leakage. Look for rodent damage and corrosion that can develop during storage. A low reservoir or wet component is not solved by bleeding; locate and repair the loss first. Photograph any residue before cleaning. Examine the tire, wheel and rear brake disc as well, since a controlled verification depends on the whole rear assembly being safe to rotate and stop.

Follow the exact bleed order and ABS requirements

Set the motorcycle upright and secure it against tipping. Follow Triumph’s exact order, using manual, vacuum or pressure assistance only where the procedure permits. If an ABS service routine is required, run it with the specified diagnostic system and repeat the conventional steps in the directed sequence. Keep hoses clear of exhaust and painted parts, open the bleeder only as required and watch for air, discoloration or contamination. Do not assume a powered machine can push trapped air through every ABS valve state; the procedure decides which hydraulic paths are open.

Keep the reservoir from running dry

Never let the reservoir run dry. Check its level frequently and add only clean specified fluid without shaking or aerating it. An empty reservoir can introduce more air upstream and extend the job into the ABS unit. Keep the adapter sealed at a modest approved pressure and stop if fluid leaks around the reservoir or a hose swells. Do not reuse extracted fluid. Once clear fluid without bubbles reaches the endpoint specified by Triumph, close the bleeder to torque, restore the diaphragm and cap correctly, and clean any spill immediately with the approved method.

Check leaks and pedal feel while stationary

Test before the wheel sees road speed. With the bike secured and engine state as instructed, apply the rear pedal repeatedly and confirm consistent travel and resistance. Hold pressure and inspect every opened joint for leakage. Make sure the wheel releases without abnormal drag, then confirm the brake lamp and any diagnostic status. A firm pedal alone cannot prove there is no leak or that ABS operation is correct. If the pedal sinks, changes after waiting or never becomes consistent, stop and reopen the hydraulic diagnosis instead of compensating with another blind bleed.

Use a controlled low-speed verification last

Make the final test controlled and last. Start in a clear, level area at walking pace with an experienced rider wearing full protective equipment and the front brake available. Apply the rear brake progressively, then increase speed only after repeatable response. Do not provoke ABS on the first stop or ride into traffic to ‘bed it in.’ Recheck the caliper, hose joints and fluid level afterward. Record storage interval, fluid specification, bleed method and sequence, pedal result, leak check and low-speed test so the owner knows the storage requirement was actually completed.

A Rocket 3 that looks ready after storage may still have one required job between the workshop and the road. Let the calendar trigger the service, let Triumph’s exact procedure control the fluid and ABS sequence, and let stationary checks precede the first low-speed stop. Pressure assistance may make the exchange orderly, but it cannot turn an uncertain pedal or leaking circuit into a safe motorcycle.
