When a 2014–2020 Nissan Rogue loses power during extreme snowfall and stores P0101, inspect the air path before buying a mass-airflow sensor. Nissan’s bulletin requires the weather event and actual snow inside the air cleaner case. The code alone is not enough.

Make the roadside decision first
Reduced power in a blizzard is a visibility and traffic hazard. Move off the travel lane if the vehicle can be controlled, switch on hazard lamps, and stop before opening the hood in an unsafe location. Do not stand ahead of the car where another vehicle can slide into you.
If the engine runs extremely rough, stalls, ingests liquid water, or warning lamps indicate overheating or oil pressure, shut it down and arrange transport. Repeated wide-open-throttle attempts can pull more snow through a restricted filter.

Use P0101 as an airflow plausibility clue
P0101 indicates that the measured MAF result does not agree with the control model under the monitored conditions. Restricted flow, contaminated sensing, air leakage, circuit faults, engine breathing, or software context can all affect that agreement.
Compare MAF data with RPM, load, throttle, intake temperature, and manifold pressure under Nissan’s procedure. Do not clean the sensor with an unapproved chemical or touch its element. A new sensor can report the same implausible flow if the filter remains restricted.
Check the bulletin hardware fence
The bulletin applies to 2014–2020 Rogue T32 and gives a model-specific inspection of foam blocks and grille configuration. Have a dealer or trained technician confirm which foam pieces should be present, which should be absent, and whether a grille update applies. Do not copy locations or dimensions to Rogue Sport or another Nissan.
The correction includes clearing snow, replacing the air filter, and configuring the listed foam/grille path as instructed. It is not simply “remove all foam.” Randomly altering seals can create water, noise, or airflow problems.
Move to circuit testing only after drying

Also distinguish Rogue from Rogue Sport and record any aftermarket grille screen, winter front, intake duct, or nonstandard filter. A modification may change snow movement without proving it caused the event. Photograph it in place before removal so the technician can compare the actual airflow path with Nissan’s configuration.
Verify in dry operation without recreating danger
After the approved repair, confirm the housing seals correctly, the proper dry filter is installed, the inlet path matches the bulletin, MAF data is plausible, and current/pending codes stay absent through Nissan’s drive check. Inspect for air leaks created during reassembly.
Do not chase another blizzard to test the car. Normal dry verification plus later observation in ordinary winter use is safer. If the symptom returns in heavy snow, preserve the physical evidence again and let Nissan evaluate the exact configuration.
