How to Use the AUTOOL OD710 Pneumatic Waste Oil Drainer Step by Step

The AUTOOL OD710 collects warm waste engine oil by gravity through its height-adjustable 20 L catch pan and stores it in a 70 L tank. When the tank needs emptying, regulated compressed air pushes the collected oil through the drain hose. The safe sequence is to confirm the gravity-only OD710 configuration, assemble and position it under a properly supported vehicle, drain the engine with the engine off, then discharge the storage tank at only 0.6–0.8 bar.

OD710 is not the vacuum-extraction model: the current configuration has no transparent measuring cup or dipstick suction wands. Never work under an unsupported vehicle, use the machine for gasoline, diesel, brake fluid or a flammable solvent, exceed its pressure range, or treat the safety valve as a normal pressure regulator.

Prepare the vehicle, workshop and disposal path

Step 1: Confirm the exact OD710 configuration

Check the model label and compare the machine with the current gravity-drainer structure: a 20 L catch pan, vertical lifting rod, tool tray, handle, drain device and hose, tank inlet valve, safety valve, check-valve assembly, sight window, four braking casters and a 70 L storage tank.

Stop: If the machine has a transparent measuring cup, vacuum generator or suction wands, do not use this sequence. Obtain the instructions for that exact configuration.

Step 2: Read the vehicle and lift procedures

Locate the approved engine-oil drain point, lifting points, lift capacity, locking procedure, drain-plug torque and sealing-washer requirement. Plan how the vehicle will remain mechanically supported while the pan is underneath it.

Completion check: The vehicle, lift and oil-service procedure are identified before the machine enters the work area.

Step 3: Confirm the liquid is waste engine oil

Use OD710 only for the waste-oil function described for the machine. Do not route gasoline, diesel, brake fluid, a methanol- or ketone-containing liquid, a flammable solvent or an unidentified workshop fluid into the tank.

Step 5: Inspect every OD710 control and fluid path

Check the catch pan, lifting rod, locking threads, handle, tool tray, tank, sight window, drain hose, drain device, inlet valve, safety valve, check valve, fittings and caster brakes. The hose must not be cracked, kinked or loose, and no joint may show an oil or air leak.

Stop: Do not use a damaged pan, unstable rod, sticking valve, leaking hose, unreadable sight window, damaged tank or inoperative caster brake.

Step 6: Install the lifting rod and catch pan vertically

Thread the lifting rod and catch-pan assembly into place clockwise. Keep the rod vertical relative to the tank. Turn the lifting-rod device counterclockwise to release it for height adjustment, then clockwise to lock the selected height.

Completion check: The rod is vertical, the pan cannot rotate or drop, and the adjustment mechanism is fully locked.

Step 7: Prepare a controlled work zone

Put on gloves and safety goggles. Remove ignition sources, smoking, open flames and unrelated traffic. Keep absorbent material ready, route the drain hose within the machine footprint, and confirm that the floor is level enough for stable caster contact.

Stop: Do not work in a high-temperature, high-pressure, flammable, explosive or poorly controlled area.

Step 8: Bring the oil into the 40–60°C working range

Follow the vehicle procedure to bring the engine oil into the machine’s 40–60°C working range, then switch the engine off. Allow exhaust and nearby surfaces to reach a condition in which the operator, hose and catch pan can be positioned safely.

Common mistake: Leaving the engine running while positioning or draining violates the operating boundary and exposes the operator to moving and hot components.

Step 9: Lift and secure the vehicle

Use the approved lifting points and the lift manufacturer’s procedure. Raise the vehicle only as high as needed for safe access, engage every required mechanical lock and verify stability before anyone or any equipment moves underneath.

Stop: Never rely only on hydraulic pressure, a floor jack or an unverified lift position.

Step 10: Move OD710 by its handle and lock the casters

Lower the catch pan enough to clear the vehicle, then roll the machine by the handle. Do not pull or steer it by the lifting rod. Position the tank on stable floor and apply the caster brakes before raising the pan.

Completion check: The tank cannot roll, tip or obstruct the operator’s clear exit path.

Step 11: Align the catch pan with the drain point

Release the height mechanism counterclockwise, raise the pan beneath the drain point, and lock it clockwise. Center the pan for the initial oil-flow arc as well as the slower vertical drip that follows. Keep a safe gap so the pan does not support or contact the vehicle.

Common mistake: Aligning only for the final drip can allow the first pressurized stream of warm oil to overshoot the pan.

Step 12: Open the vehicle drain point under control

Keep your face and body away from the expected oil path. Loosen and remove the drain plug with the specified tool, controlling the plug so it does not fall into the pan or redirect the warm oil.

Stop: If the oil is hotter than expected, the vehicle shifts, the pan moves or oil misses the pan, stop and correct the condition without reaching into the stream.

Step 13: Let the oil drain while monitoring the machine

Step 16: Decide whether the storage tank needs discharge

Use the sight window, job record and facility schedule to decide whether to empty the tank. Do not begin a pressurized discharge merely to make room while the downstream container, hose route or regulated air supply is unprepared.

Stop: If the tank, safety valve, check valve or drain assembly is damaged or leaking, isolate the machine and obtain qualified service.

Step 17: Secure the waste-oil receiving container

Place an approved container on a stable surface, confirm its remaining capacity and secure the drain hose so its outlet cannot jump free. Keep the outlet above the rising waste-oil level and within the container opening.

Completion check: The entire expected volume has a contained path from the OD710 tank to the receiving container.

Step 18: Close both valves before connecting air

Close the oil discharge-pipe valve and the oil-tank inlet valve. Verify that the discharge hose is aimed into the receiving container and that nobody is in the hose path.

Common mistake: Connecting air with an open discharge or inlet valve removes control over the start of the transfer.

Step 19: Connect regulated air and pressurize only to 0.6–0.8 bar

Set the regulated supply so the oil discharge pressure remains within 0.6–0.8 bar, connect it to the tank inlet valve, then open the inlet valve. Watch the machine continuously for movement, leakage or an abnormal sound.

Stop: The safety valve’s action above 1.0 bar is emergency protection, not a working setpoint. If it lifts or pressure rises unexpectedly, close and isolate the air supply immediately.

Step 20: Wait five seconds, then open the drain valve slowly

After approximately five seconds of controlled pressurization, slowly open the oil drain valve. Let the flow establish gradually so the hose remains secure and the receiving container does not splash or overflow.

Step 21: Monitor the complete tank discharge

Stay at the controls and watch the tank sight window, hose, container level, fittings and pressure. Never add pressure to overcome a restriction. Close the drain valve and isolate the air immediately if flow stops unexpectedly, a leak appears or the receiving container approaches capacity.

Troubleshoot without increasing pressure

If gravity recovery is slow, first confirm the oil temperature, the vehicle drain opening and the pan-to-tank path; OD710 does not use vacuum to accelerate drainage. If tank discharge is slow, close the drain valve, isolate and fully depressurize the machine before checking the hose, valves or waste-container venting. A leak, lifting safety valve, damaged gauge or repeated restriction requires qualified service—not a higher regulator setting or a temporary fitting.
