A forced regeneration is sometimes treated as the first response to any soot code. We need a stop list that covers restriction, fuel system, oil level, temperature sensors and workshop safety.

Which failed checks mean diagnose first and do not start the regen?

Stop when soot or differential pressure is above the procedure's safe limit, oil is overfilled or fuel-diluted, required temperature or pressure sensors are implausible, exhaust leaks or fuel faults remain, coolant level or engine temperature is unsafe, or the vehicle cannot be placed in the required ventilated exclusion area. Confirm ash load; regeneration cannot remove ash.

Record preconditions, starting soot and pressure, peak temperatures, duration and final values. A regen is a monitored service operation after diagnosis, not a way to erase an unknown cause.

The checklist prevented a regen on a vehicle whose differential-pressure hose was blocked and whose calculated soot was only moderate. Repairing the sensing path corrected the data without exposing the filter to an unnecessary heat cycle.
