A no-communication module can be the failed node, a missing power supply or simply downstream of a gateway fault. We want technicians to save more than a flat code list before unplugging anything.

What does the baseline topology add?

It records which modules responded, which buses and gateways were reachable, shared voltage codes and the pattern of lost nodes. Compare that map with the wiring topology to identify whether several missing modules share power, ground or a network branch. Save module identifiers and network voltage before disconnection.

After repair, repeat the identical scan and compare the map, not just cleared codes. A replacement module that appears online but leaves its downstream branch absent has not completed the diagnosis.

On the first case, the topology showed four absent modules behind one gateway rather than four separate failures. Restoring the gateway ground returned the complete branch. The before-and-after maps made the repair clear.
