Mazda3 i-ELOOP warning appeared after a conventional battery was installed

A 2016 Mazda3 received a standard flooded battery of the correct physical size. Soon afterward, i-stop stopped working and a charging-system warning appeared. Alternator and capacitor voltage data are otherwise plausible, and there was no warning with the previous battery.
Does the battery technology and registration matter on this system?
Check the VIN-specific battery specification; systems with regenerative charging may require a particular enhanced flooded or AGM performance class, temperature sensor arrangement and replacement initialization. Physical fit and cold-cranking rating alone are not enough. Test the installed battery, verify sensor routing and perform the stated battery-condition reset only after the correct battery is fitted.
Do not replace the i-ELOOP capacitor or alternator until the basic battery mismatch is corrected and charging data is retested.
The installed conventional battery did not meet the required Q-85 specification. A correct battery was fitted and the battery-management initialization completed. Charging current and state estimates normalized, and i-stop became available after its learning drive.
