BMW F30 steering-angle value is off-center after alignment

A 2015 F30 drives straight, but the steering wheel sits several degrees right and the steering-angle sensor reads +8 degrees on a level road. Front toe is nominal, yet rear thrust angle is near the edge of tolerance. A calibration was attempted without changing the mechanical alignment.
Should the sensor be zeroed first, or must the rack and thrust line be corrected?
Mechanical center comes first. Verify tire pressures, ride height, rear thrust angle, front toe and equal steering-rack position with the wheel locked at true center. A calibration should not be used to hide an off-center rack or thrust line. Once alignment is within the specified preferred values and the wheel is centered, perform the steering-angle and any required chassis-sensor calibration.
Then road-test on a level surface and confirm angle, yaw and wheel-speed values are plausible together.
Correcting rear toe brought thrust angle near zero and allowed the front rack to be centered without changing total toe. The subsequent steering-angle calibration read within 0.5 degree on the road, and the wheel remained centered.
