Our in-cylinder and fuel-pressure transducers travel between bays. Technicians zero them before use, but we do not record reference checks or adapter volume. Small offsets are becoming visible when waveforms are compared months apart.

What control check belongs in the setup?

Record transducer model, range, serial number, zero value, supply and scaling in the scope. Check zero before and after the capture, and periodically compare against a traceable pressure source within the range used. For in-cylinder work, record hose or adapter volume and whether the sensor was heat-soaked, because both affect waveform shape.

A software zero can hide drift; the reference check determines whether scaling remains accurate. Retire or calibrate a sensor that does not return to zero or track the reference within its stated tolerance.

The new log found one 500 psi transducer reading 18 psi high at a 100 psi reference even after zeroing. It was removed for calibration. Subsequent compression waveforms from the remaining sensors agreed within the documented tolerance.
