Save every throttle/pedal DTC and freeze-frame, confirm the build date, then map each code to the current Ford wiring diagram. For the scoped vehicles, Ford directs inspection for loose-fitting terminals at PCM connector C1551B on the 2.3L or C175B on the 5.0L. Do not force a generic probe into the face of the connector or replace a pedal/throttle part before terminal fit is proved.

Once the exact circuit and safe access method are identified, a high-impedance meter or scope can compare supply, return and signal without loading the circuit. The AUTOOL DM303 is one practical route for that measured step. DM303 can support high-impedance voltage, resistance and waveform checks on an identified low-voltage circuit with correct back-probing; it cannot choose the PCM cavity, perform a terminal drag test, make front-probing safe, repair a terminal or prove that every throttle code comes from the connector.

A code description can sound like a component verdict: accelerator pedal, throttle position, correlation. In this case the more important evidence may be the grip of one tiny terminal where the signal enters the PCM. Put the evidence on trial in order. The DTC identifies a circuit family, the build record admits the bulletin, terminal fit tests the physical connection and a loaded signal verifies the repair. A part name in a scanner is not testimony from the part.

Freeze the complaint before key cycling

Do not begin by cycling the key until the symptom disappears. Photograph every message, note accelerator response and save all PCM codes with freeze-frame and failure records. Was the complaint at idle, tip-in, cruise, a bump or a particular temperature? Did reduced-power mode occur? If throttle response is unpredictable, move the car only as required for safety and arrange service. Record which module reported each code; related circuit codes together can implicate a shared connector or reference path, while an unrelated network or voltage code can change the starting point.

Check the engine and build-date gate

SSM 55072 covers 2025–2026 Mustangs with either the 2.3L or 5.0L engine only when built from August 15 through December 1, 2025. Read the door/VIN build record and confirm engine identity. A model-year match by itself is not enough. A car outside that window, with a different engine or with different codes needs its current pinpoint test. Also check for later revisions or campaigns. Bulletins describe a known pattern in some vehicles; they do not prove the pattern exists in this car.

Group codes by circuit instead of part name

List the stored codes by circuit rather than translating each into a shopping list. Separate pedal-position channels, throttle-position channels, reference voltage, signal return and actuator codes. Use Ford’s current wiring diagram to see which signals pass through the named PCM connector and whether several complaints share a terminal group. A pedal correlation code can result when two redundant signals disagree, even if the pedal assembly itself is healthy. Freeze-frame voltage, rpm and commanded/actual position help show whether the disagreement was momentary or persistent.

Choose the correct PCM connector

The connector depends on the engine. Ford names C1551B for the 2.3L and C175B for the 5.0L. Confirm connector view, orientation and cavity numbers in current service information before releasing any lock. Depower the vehicle as directed and protect electrostatic-sensitive electronics. Label every disconnected item. A similar-looking connector from an online image can be mirrored or from a different calibration. If access or depinning requires special fixtures, stop and use the Ford procedure; terminal damage created during inspection can perfectly imitate the original complaint.

Inspect without spreading another terminal

Start with good lighting and magnification. Look for a terminal sitting deeper than its neighbors, a secondary lock not seated, damaged seals, moisture, fretting, witness marks or a wire that moves independently of the terminal. Do not insert a paper clip, sewing needle or oversized probe into the mating face. That can spread a healthy female terminal. Back-probe only where Ford permits, using the correct flexible lead. Photograph the connector before manipulation so a newly moved terminal is not mistaken for a discovery.

Prove fit before proving voltage

Terminal fit is a mechanical test with an electrical consequence. Use the approved mating test pin or Ford’s specified drag/pull method and compare the suspect cavity with a known-good cavity of the same design. Then reconnect and observe the relevant signals while gently moving the harness in a controlled way. An open-circuit resistance check can pass because a meter needs almost no current. A stable loaded signal and secure drag are stronger. Never apply power or ground to a PCM signal just because a multifunction tester can do so.

Repair the terminal with the specified kit

When fit is loose, follow Ford’s wiring repair procedure and use the recommended DU2Z-14474-CA terminal kit where applicable. Match conductor size, seal, crimp and cavity; preserve the wire’s strain relief and secondary lock. Do not squeeze the terminal with random pliers or solder where the procedure calls for a crimp. Inspect the male blade for damage before installing a new female side. Route the harness without tension, then reconnect until every lock is positively engaged. Record the repaired cavity and parts rather than writing only ‘connector repaired.’

Wiggle, road-test and rescan

Clear codes only after the pre-scan is saved. With the car secure, compare both redundant pedal/throttle signals from rest through a slow sweep, then perform Ford’s required relearns and road verification. Include the operating state that produced the complaint and a controlled harness wiggle. Confirm no reduced-power message, dropout or code returns. If the terminal passes and the signal still fails, continue the exact pinpoint test through supply, return, component and PCM branches. The bulletin should narrow diagnosis, not shield every other possible fault.

The smallest part in the circuit can create the largest symptom. Save the Mustang’s actual code pattern, pass the build and engine gates, inspect the correct PCM connector without damaging it and prove terminal grip before replacing anything with a pedal or throttle in its name. That sequence is slower than a guess for the first ten minutes and much faster by the end of the job.
