2014 BMW X5 N55 Cold-Start Blue Smoke: Valve Stem Seal Repair Case
A 2014 BMW X5 with an N55 engine and 180,000 km emitted blue smoke for roughly 10–20 seconds after a cold start, then cleared. The timing pattern, reported oil use, wet piston-crown deposits seen through the spark-plug openings, and hardened seals found during repair supported valve stem seal leakage rather than a mileage-based overhaul assumption. All 24 seals were replaced with the cylinder head installed, and a cold start after a 12-hour static period produced no visible blue smoke; longer-term oil-consumption follow-up was not reported.
