Clunk Over Bumps? A Suspension Noise Troubleshooting Map

A suspension clunk is easiest to find when you describe the exact event that creates it.

Build a symptom map before lifting the car

A controlled diagnostic flow

1. Empty the cabin and cargo area. A jack, spare tire, or loose tool can perfectly imitate chassis noise.
2. Confirm tire pressure and wheel fastening. These checks come before any road test.
3. Reproduce at low speed. Note steering angle, brake input, temperature, and which corner seems loudest.
4. Inspect on the ground. Look for shifted bushings, broken spring ends, leaks, shiny contact marks, and damaged undertrays.
5. Raise the vehicle correctly. Support at approved points, then check joints using the specified unloaded or loaded procedure.
6. Use chassis ears or a helper. Controlled measurement is more reliable than striking random parts.
