3. Diagnose before replacing parts

A diagnostic trouble code reports a monitored condition. Wiring faults, leaks, mechanical problems, software, power or ground issues, related systems, and test conditions can produce the same code. Verify the complaint, review related data, test the system, and confirm the repair.

4. High-risk work

Stop and obtain qualified help if you cannot identify and control the hazards. Higher-risk areas include brakes, steering, suspension, wheels and tires; airbags and restraints; lifting or working below a vehicle; fuel and high-pressure systems; high-current electrical work; hybrid and electric-vehicle high voltage; refrigerant and pressurized systems; and moving or rotating components.

5. Tools and work conditions

Use properly rated and maintained tools, test equipment, supports, ventilation, fire protection, and personal protective equipment. Follow required depowering, lockout, lifting, and environmental procedures. Never defeat a safety device to follow online information.

6. Laws, recalls, and warranties

Repair, inspection, emissions, refrigerant, waste, cybersecurity, and modification rules vary by location. OBD2SCAN does not authorize unlawful tampering, theft, fraud, or disabling safety systems. Check official recall information and understand that a repair or modification may affect warranty coverage.

7. Responsibility and limits

The person deciding whether and how to inspect, drive, lift, test, modify, or repair a vehicle is responsible for confirming the procedure, competence, tools, conditions, and result. If online information conflicts with current official service information, stop and resolve the conflict.
